Virtual: Using Ancestry.com Effectively

Monday, October 186:30—8:00 PMOnlineMain Library28 Arlington Street, Dracut, MA, 01826

Ancestry.com and Family Tree Maker (now from MacKiev) are the most popular of the paid services and software available. In this presentation you will be guided through a case study of a local Irish family using only what is available on Ancestry. Then you will see what happens when you expand your research tools. Ancestry is growing all the time. New records are becoming available daily, so never give up. You will learn how to refine your search to obtain more accurate results and how to capture images of proof documents. You will learn what to do with those “shaky leaf” hints.

Richard Reid is the director of both the Friends of Irish Research and the David Allen Lambert Library which are based in Brockton, MA. He has co-authored four computer books, and established several computer training centers in New England. He is an active member of over a dozen societies including the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia and the Cape Breton Genealogical and Historical Association.
