Open Space Hike - Cross Road/Rifle Trail

Thursday, July 66:00—7:00 PMOutdoorsMain Library28 Arlington Street, Dracut, MA, 01826

Explore local open spaces by joining a guided tour with a member of the OpenSpace Committee! We'll have several different hikes for teens and adults of all abilities throughout the summer and fall. Our fourth hike will be the Rifle Trail at Cross Road. We will leave the trailhead by 6:05pm so please consider arriving early. We also recommend taking measures to prevent tick bites, such as wearing long pants and light-colored clothing, and maybe using bug spray or other repellant.

Cross Road (Picnic Area) contains approximately ¾ mile of trails accessing several vernal pools and rock formations with parking on Cross Rd. The parcel abuts the adjacent Rifle Range Conservation Area so called as parts of it were once a Militia training ground. The Rifle Trail (2/3 mile each way) departs the Picnic Area and runs to the ruins of the former target area on this large parcel visible from Bridge St. The Peppermint Brook runs through the large area of wetlands. Many varieties of wildlife have been spotted here, including deer, coyote, smaller mammals, and waterfowl.

Registration is recommended so we can notify you of any change in plans.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Offered in partnership with the Open Space Committee.
