Mandala Workshop (ages 14 and up)
Saturday, February 189:30—11:30 AMMeeting RoomMain Library28 Arlington Street, Dracut, MA, 01826
Mandalas have a rich and beautiful history. They are one of the oldest artforms in existence. The first recorded was 1500 BCE. They are found in some form in every culture. Today, the mandala is utilized in various ways. From spiritual meditation to simply creating something beautiful.
During this 2 hour workshop we will briefly discuss the history and use of the mandala and create a simple (or complex) mandala design utilizing colored pencils, compass and a ruler. The 2 hours should be sufficient time to finish (or at least have enough completed that the remainder can be finished at home.)
Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Led by Glenn Szegedy, a Lowell area artist who has been making art for the last 20 years. Retiring from a Human Service career working with disabled children, Glenn went back to school at age 40 and received his BFA in drawing and sculpture from the University of New Hampshire. A longtime resident of Lowell, he now lives in Dracut MA, where he works from a home studio. A resident of Western Ave Studios for 10 years, he now prefers the privacy and quiet of working from his home studio. He has a long history of exhibiting work throughout New England and has many works in private collections. Glenn has had the opportunity to curate several exhibits in Lowell. He also held the curatorial position at the Loading Dock Gallery for several years. Teaching has also been a passion and Glenn has had many opportunities to do so in the Lowell area. Glenn’s creative work has varied over the years from sculpture, to ceramics, printmaking and other forms of art. He has spent the last 3 years discovering portrait work. While creating the images from The Power of One show, he says “I slowly began to see the importance and beauty of individual’s, not beauty queens, nor billionaires or movie stars, but everyday people who create the rich diverse communities we live in. Glenn plans on continuing to divide his time between his two loves…gardening and art. His portrait work will continue, and he hopes to continue to try and capture the person behind the face.
