Just over 20 years ago the Internet began to upend how most of us consume the news and as social media has gained in popularity - and with it the proliferation of clickable news stories - the change in news consumption has accelerated. Just trying to be informed with so many sources can be confusing. Which sources are the most reliable and is there such a thing as consuming too much news? How can two people read the same news story and draw drastically different conclusions? What are the implications for our society?

On Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 PM Prof. Hank Sennott of Bridgewater State University will deliver a program on how to read the news over Zoom. We will discuss the need for consulting multiple sources, the importance of critical thinking, how newspapers cover stories, and more. There will be time for a Q&A session as well.

Professor Sennott has been associated with Bridgewater State University's Communication Studies program for the past five years. He began his teaching career in the 1980's in the Communications Department at what was then Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA, where he earned the rank of Assistant Professor. He also served as faculty advisor to both the campus radio station and newspaper. In addition, he taught for several years at Rhode Island College and Curry College, in addition to returning to the faculty at Dean. He also enjoyed a successful career in local government serving as President of the Attleboro Municipal Council and as a member of the Sandwich Board of Selectmen and Chair of the Town Finance Committee.
